CHATHAM TWP. — Two local drivers were injured in an two-car collision on River Road Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 21.
According to Lieutenant Steven Hennelly, a 17-year-old Summit resident was driving westbound on River Road in a 2003 Ford Explorer and John Dill, 24, of Stirling, Long Hill Township, was traveling east bound in a 1998 Nissan Sentra when he dropped his cell phone.
When Dill reached for it, he crossed over into the westbound lane striking the 17-year-old’s vehicle head-on. Both drivers were injured in the accident and transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital with unknown injures, the officer said.
Dill was issued summonses for failure to keep right and cell phone use while driving.
The accident took place about 200 yards east of the road’s intersection with Central Avenue and Fairmount Avenue.
